Idea #7 We Need to Talk About Beauty

Getting Uncomfortable
I decided to put on this kimono with bright and vibrant colors in order to stand out. This was the only piece in my closet that I never normally wear because I fear that it’s too flashy and would draw unwanted attention. Why did I buy it you might ask? I simply liked the pattern and design of it! It’s fun to see that I can finally make use of it with this week’s art activity.
what I did
For this activity, I went to a boba shop in my hometown and asked people what they thought my name was and why. Several names that I got were Claire, Jasmine, and Luxe. I asked them why and most of them just said “it was the first name that popped into my head” or “I don’t know, you just looked like one.” I also told them that I was in college so I followed up with the question, “what do you think my major is?” Most replied with art, film, or nursing. I actually laughed at this one guy who told me that any Asian that is short and Filipino is most definitely a nursing major. Not surprised. I also noticed how many people in the boba shop were looking at my kimono and I kind of felt uncomfortable because I do not like drawing much attention to myself, but I get it, I’m wearing something interesting.
conclusion
Looking normal appearance wise can be boring sometimes, and it is important to note that it is okay to spice up your life with something more interesting. Although it can be uncomfortable drawing attention for wearing something out of the ordinary, it is an experience that I did not regret. It was cool getting to see people’s perspective on my appearance, regardless if it was offensive or not. Furthermore, not falling under society’s expectations of beauty is not something to be proud of essentially, but being unique is the greatest gift of beauty you can offer the world.
How I normally dress (left)–basic.
Idea #8 Your Realism is getting in the way of my Romaticism

Moments I Cherish with You
Every second, minute, and hour with you
I will cherish because of all that you do
You make me feel complete
Even when we kid and tease ’bout who’s gonna cheat
But even past all those jokes I will always know
That you will be there for me
When I’m at my lowest of lows
I thank you for loving me
These are the moments I’ll cherish with you
The moments I know I wouldn’t let go
It’s in my head I know that it’s true
These are the moments I cherish with you
Even when I can be a mess
You’ve seen me at my best
And the future will only uncover the rest
I thank God everyday for blessing me with you
I wish and pray that we’ll stick like Elmer’s glue
Whoever said nothing lasts forever ?
Because with you, I know Imma have my happily ever after
These are the moments I’ll cherish with you
The moments I know I wouldn’t let go
It’s in my head I know that it’s true
These are the moments I cherish with you
what were you trying to think about in your song?
I was thinking about a boy who has a special place in my heart. I was thinking about all the things he has done for me and how I am hoping to keep him in my life forever because every moment I spend with him, I always have a great time that I will never forget.
what was your process for writing your song?
I just thought about all our little dates and how I cherish every second I spend with him and I was thinking that this could be the chorus for my pop song. After writing my first verse, everything else kept coming easily to me.
was it easy? hard? what you expected? surprising?
Don’t get me wrong, this was very hard and definitely not easy. Thinking of a beat or sound in my head was very difficult but it ended up working in the end which was nice.
how successful do you think your song is?
I think my song is definitely not worthy enough to be on Spotify, let alone Soundcloud, but that is okay. I think my chorus is pretty catchy and I sing it in my head now.
do you think you will ever write another song?
Maybe I would write another song just for fun when I am bored, but I don’t see myself writing anymore in the near future.
if you did write another song, what do you think it might be about?
I would write a song about how much I spend on boba and how much I love boba. I would do this because I have an unhealthy obsession with boba so I think it would be interesting to write a love song about it.
