Idea #15 and #16

Idea #15 Remix Culture

  1. There is definitely this lack of freedom on Internet culture, but it has its pros and cons. Firstly, having too much freedom on the internet can be dangerous as it can lead to all sorts of chaos such as harassment, online bullying, or abuse of power. Not enough freedom can also be troublesome as there are some ideas that may be sensitive to talk to about, but NEED to be talked about in order to provoke positive change. For example, when Micol Hebron visited our class a few weeks ago, she noted how male nipples are acceptable to be floating around the internet, but female nipples are prohibited and censored. There is this lack of freedom on the internet that gets in the way of human rights.
  2. I feel as though copyright is very important as it is a way to give people credit for their work. I also feel that the rules and actions taken for it is fine and may need to be modified, but not necessary. For example, Youtubers who use copyrighted music are unable to receive money or “Adsense” on their videos, and may even be taken down or have their sound muted.
  3. I would choose the most restrictive copyright because if I were to produce a piece of art, I would want all credits going to me if someone else decides to use my work.
  4. I used a photo editor app known as VSCO and I put in an effect that gave off these bright fun colors. I adjusted the highlights, contrast, saturation, shadows, sharpness, and added some grain effect to add some more dimension. This was super fun as I love to edit photos like this and I love how the photo came out to look like. On the left is the original photo I had taken from a little cafe in the Philippines when I visited on December 2019. On the right, is the “remixed” photo, which I really enjoyed making.
