Vlogging
What was your goal with your video
My goal for this video was to vlog about my day and share my thoughts about the current situation that the whole world is going through currently.
Did you accomplish your goal? Why? Or why not?
I accomplished most of it. Obviously I did not document every second of the day, but I still showcased most of what I did in that day.
What would you do differently next time?
Next time I would definitely try to add more montages into my vlog, instead of constantly talking to the camera. I would also try and vlog the more interesting parts of my day, the stuff people want to see.
Do you think you’ll ever vlog again?
Yes! I love the whole concept of vlogging and it is super fun to look back at it in the future. I also love editing videos, so this art activity was really nice and refreshing.
Who is your favorite YouTuber? (not counting heyit’smay, Emma Chamberlain, Natalie Tran, or any of the YouTubers on this page)
My favorite youtuber at the moment is Ava Jules, but I also love watching Cody Ko and other lifestyle youtubers like Ashley on bestdressed, Mai Pham, and many more.
What about their work appeals to you?
I love watching Ava because she’s so down to earth in her videos and it is so interesting to watch her vlogs about what she does in her daily life, especially since she lives in Hawaii. Cody Ko makes hilarious quality content, he is so funny and never fails to make me laugh. Ashley and Mai are all about being transparent with the camera and being real. Their content is so different from each other but both portray relatable at the same time. Ashley’s editing skills are fantastic and her content goes deep as she talks about society and life in general. Mai is silly and is just a “quirky” teen.
What lessons can you take from their work to apply to your own vlogging?
I guess some lessons I could take from these people is to just have fun with vlogging, put out content that you like to see, and be yourself.
What is Authenticity?
Authenticity is being yourself without any filters.
What is Performance?
Performance is an act, it is not truly who you are, but how you want people to see you.
Are Authenticity and Performance opposites? Or can they exist together? Explain!
They can exist together because it is possible for someone to be themselves and have their personality out there during an act or performance, but it is either exaggerated or unexaggerated, depending on the type of persona they are trying to portray. At the end of the day, their performative self doesn’t have to be different from their authentic self.
Below are 2 clips of Jennifer Aniston on the Jimmy Kimmel show – one in the studio and one from home during the coronavirus pandemic. Do you think either clip is more authentic? Is either more performative? Why or why not?
I feel like when Jennifer was in the studio, she was more performative than when she was at home. This could be because in the studio, she is on a stage, which gives off more of a performative vibe, whereas if she were just home, she could be her authentic self because that is her sanctuary, her home. Also, in the studio she is dressed up and looks very professional, but at her house, she was in a plain shirt with glasses, which really shows more authenticity than her in the studio.
Idea #12 Virtual Art Gallery
The theme I am going for in my virtual art gallery is a medieval look with a nostalgic feel. The first place we will be visiting will be a Minecraft world my friends and I made together. As you can see in the video, the material used to build our houses was mainly made out of wood and stone. We also incorporated torches as a source of light, which adds on to the medieval look of the world. Moreover, we added a colosseum as a representation of the olden days when people would fight for their life with a large audience watching the battle for entertainment.
Minecraft
League of Legends
The virtual world of League of Legends has a great medieval feel to it, especially when you play the game. The materials used for the battlefield is mainly stone and elements of nature surrounding each area. The environment in which each champion plays in has very earthy and cool tones, which give in to the medieval theme. The champions being played also portray a medieval background as my main champion, named Lux along with her brother, Garen are both heir to the Great City of Demacia. Lux yearns to protect her people with her powers and abilities along with her brother.
Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed is another virtual world that goes along with the medieval theme that I am going for. Ezio is a distant relative to the person who travels back in time to 15th century Spain in order to protect free will from the power hungry Templar order. The people in this game are comparable to the Men in Black of the 15th century. As you can see in the photos, Ezio, who wears the hood, is dressed up in medieval attire and armor, and has similar qualities to a medieval knight. The animation of this game is cool toned and quite dim, giving the look of the game a dark and evil mood.
